As the final Grand Slam of the year gets underway in New York, yet again Indian interest, as has been the case in recent years, remains primarily in doubles. Saketh Myneni made his way past the qualifiers to seal a spot in the main draw, but lost in the first round against Jiri Vesely in a five-set battle. Indias best chance of success at the US Open now rests with the usual suspects - Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna, all of whom will be in action later today in their respective opening-round matches.Interestingly all three of them have arrived for the tournament with relatively new partners.Mirza, who has the sole possession of the world number one spot in the individual rankings, will pair up with Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic. Having ended her hugely successful partnership with Martina Hingis after a string of below par results in recent months, Mirza has rebounded spectacularly by winning her last two tournaments in Cincinnati and New Haven. In Cincinnati, Mirza and Strycova debuted in impressive fashion, racing to the title but with the Czech player resting in New Haven, Mirza teamed up with Romanian Monica Niculescu to pocket her seventh title of the year.Mirza had won the US Open last year with Hingis and believes that in 30-year old Strycova, who is ranked 20th in doubles and 21st in singles, she can form an equally potent pairing. They are seeded seventh and start their campaign against the All-American combination of Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara. Our playing styles compliment each other, we are similar personalities and we will get to know each other better in the course of time, Mirza told ESPN after her win in Cincinnati. We fight for every point, she is a great fighter, she is top 20 in the world in singles and she is an amazing fighter on the court, no matter what the score is.While Mirza comes in to the US Open in red hot form, Paes is showing signs of improved form himself after an extended spell of underwhelming performances. Playing with a new partner in Germanys Andre Begemann, Paes reached the final of the Winston-Salem open last week. The pair squandered five match point opportunities in the final against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Henri Kontinen but for Paes, whose ranking has fallen to 62, constructing a run of wins itself would have been a relief. He has a 11-10 win-loss record this year and at 43, the veteran will be keen to silence those critics who believe his best is behind him.32-year old Begemann is the 108th partner Paes has combinedd with over his long career that has seen him win the mens doubles crown at the US Open thrice - 2006, 2009 & 2013.ddddddddddddBegemann has a mediocre career record, having never been past the third round of a Grand Slam doubles draw before. They start their tournament with a first round clash against another unseeded pair in Stephane Robert of France and Israels Dudi Sela.Unlike Mirza and Paes who start the tournament having played some matches of late, Bopanna arrives in New York without much match practice under his belt. Since the Olympics, where he exited in the first round of the mens doubles with Paes and lost the bronze play-off match with Mirza, Bopanna has played just one match on the circuit that ended in defeat. He paired up with regular partner Florin Mergea only to be beaten by Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi in Cincinnati. Romanian Mergea, who has been Bopannas partner for well over a year, has been forced to pull out of the US Open with an injury leaving the Indian with no choice but to seek a late replacement. The 36-year old will be teaming up with Frederik Nielsen of Denmark in New York. The Dane is currently ranked 101 in the individual doubles rankings although he has been as high as 17 in the past. Bopanna, who has slipped to 17 in the latest rankings has endured a lean patch in recent weeks and hasnt reached a final since the Madrid Open in May. He does have fond memories of the US Open though, having memorably reached the mens doubles final here in 2010 with Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. It remains his best Grand Slam performance to date.Bopanna and Nielsen face a tricky first round encounter against an experienced set of doubles players in Radek Stepanek and Nenad Zimonjic, who are seeded 16th.All three Indians will be seen in action with their respective partners in the mixed doubles later on as well.Doubles ScheduleSania Mirza - Barbora Strycova vs Jada Myii Hart -Ena Shibahara: 2:30 AM (IST), Sep 1Rohan Bopanna - Frederik Nielsen vs Radek Stepanek - Nenad Zimonjic: 1 AM (IST) Sep 1Leander Paes- Andre Begemann vs Stephane Robert - Dudu Sela: 8:30 PM (IST) Sep 1Mixed Doubles ScheduleLeander Paes - Martina Hingis vs?Frances Tiafoe - Sachia Vickery: 2:30 AM (IST) Sep 1Sania Mirza - Ivan Dodig vs?Donald Young - Taylor Townsend: 8:30 PM (IST) Sep 1Rohan Bopanna -?Gabriela Dabrowski vs Noah Rubin - Jamie Loeb: 8:30 PM (IST) Sep 1 ' ' '
