The New York Knicks have fired head coach Derek Fisher midway through his second season. The Knicks made the decision on Monday after losing on Sunday for the fifth straight time as the Denver Nuggets defeated them 101-96 at Madison Square Garden.They have lost nine of their last 10 games and fallen to 23-31, well back in the Eastern Conference play-off race. Fisher, who was originally appointed on June 10, 2014, finishes his Knicks coaching career with an overall record of 40-96.The 41-year-old was hired by general manager Phil Jackson, whom he worked with while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.Fisher won five NBA titles as the starting point guard for Jacksons Lakers but has not been able to replicate that success as a head coach.Associate head coach Kurt Rambis has been promoted to interim head coach.
