On the fourth day of South Korean TV network OGNs Overwatch APEX Season 1, the second of the four invited Western teams entered the fray. Europes Team EnVyUs, who took second in last months Overwatch Open, made its APEX debut by facing off against South Koreas Mighty Storm. Other South Korean teams LW Blue and KongDoo Panthera looked to get the edge on each other as they slugged it out later in the day, as Panthera risked elimination for losing a second game this early on in the group stages. Unfortunately for the losers of todays games, the results were more about their faults in internal communication rather than the victors skill. The first match with EnVyUs was widely anticipated, as it is one of the best teams in the West. The hype was justified, as it swept Mighty Storm 3-0. EnVyUs refused to let them take a single point on any map with the exception of the first point on Volskaya, leading to an incredible win time for the European squad. While each player on EnVyUs is clearly talented, Mighty Storms unwise use of ultimates and lack of coordination seemed to hurt the team more than EnVyUs did.KongDoo Panthera looked incredibly uncoordinated in its games against LW Blue, but it was able to stay in the running for a long time on the back of Koo EVERMORE Kyo Min. Known as one of the best Roadhog players in South Korea, EVERMORE was landing hook after hook with precision. However, it appeared that EVERMORE and the team relied too heavily on this one-trick pony strategy, as Roadhog was thrown into team compositions where it simply made no sense to have a Roadhog. The squad would often lack damage because of the absence of offensive heroes like McCree or Tracer, instead overbalancing on the tankiness and utility side even while tanky EVERMORE would be flanking on his own for a possible hook.Although LW Blue didnt seem to have a star player for this match compared to KongDoo Pantheras EVERMORE, its team coordination was nothing less than excellent, as demonstrated by its last-second assault on the second capture point on Volskaya Industries. LW Blue planted a Bastion on one of the moving platforms to take down the entire enemy team while the rest of the squad distracted KongDoo with a frontal assault. They then held the point for a stunning three and a half minutes after switching to the defending side.On Monday, Oct. 17, Team KongDoo Uncia (the sister team of KongDoo Panthera) faces off against MVP Space, after which Team EnVyUs returns to fight CONBOX T6 in a clash between two of Overwatchs most dominant teams.Stitched NCAA Jerseys .
