New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady complimented his replacement, Jimmy Garoppolo, on a solid performance in the teams 23-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night. It was a great night for him and for our whole offense, Brady said on Westwood One Radio during his weekly Monday Night Football interview.?I think one thing you realize as the quarterback is everyone being in sync and on the same page and the communication with your teammates is so critical. For us to go in there and get a win like that, it was great for, obviously, our offensive football team. The defense played great, special teams. Its such a team sport.Jimmy did everything he was asked to. It was a great way to start the season for our team.Garoppolo finished 24-of-33 for 264 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. In his biggest miscue, he was strip-sacked in the second quarter, which led to the Cardinals first touchdown. After the game, Garoppolo was presented with a game ball from coach Bill Belichick, which Garoppolo said meant a lot to him. Video on the Patriots website shows Garoppolo smiling as he receives the ball and calling the team together for the traditional team breakdown after victories. One teammate described the postgame scene as sheer joy. Those are the type of moments Brady craves, and he said on Westwood One that while hed prefer to be playing, he found value in watching the NFLs Red Zone Channel throughout the day.It was still an enjoyable Sunday, nonetheless ... on the couch, seeing games from a different perspective, he said. Its a great way to watch how a lot of the flows of the games are going. You see a lot of situations. Theres a lot to learn each week in the NFL.Specific to the Patriots-Cardinals game, Brady said, It was a great game to watch. Its a tough environment to play in. The team went in there and looked like they were focused and prepared. They played so well in so many areas. It was great to see the offense get off to a great start. It was a great first drive. Lot of great plays by Jimmy, by the skill players. The offensive line did a great job. To get up 10-0 like that was huge on the road. I think that was a great way to start the game for our team.Asked if he felt angry, helpless or nervous, Brady said it was none of those things. He was interested in what the Patriots were doing and how adjustments were made.Football is great to watch on TV, he said. You get so many different angles and replays. You dont get those things when youre playing.A lot of times, you dont know how well you did until you watch the film after the game ... the athleticism of all the players and how hard the hits are and how quickly the decisions are made, its just so much fun to watch. As for how hes staying sharp, Brady explained on the program that he has varied his workouts, per his normal routine.Im just trying to stay in football shape because its football season, to find ways to have some people I work with, with bags, to hit me and be able to make throws with people chasing after you, to work on my mechanics, to keep my movement in the pocket, my drops fluid, all those things, he said. Its a lot of field work, a little bit in the gym, a lot of body work I always get in order to keep my body balanced.Im just trying to really mimic what I would normally do during the season. Thats work out four-to-five times a week, stay sharp throwing the ball. Mentally, its a little challenging because I dont get all the film work that Id really like to get, but thats just what were dealing with.Brady said in the interview that he can be in contact with teammates to congratulate them, so he isnt completely cut off, but there can be no game-planning.Its fun to watch them and support them, and even if Im not out there, Im with them in spirit, and Im just hoping and cheering like all those Patriots fans that we win every game we play, he said.On a light-hearted note, he laughed when host Jim Gray brought up an Instagram post in which he was throwing a pass to his wife, Gisele Bundchen. Its fun to have her out there playing catch. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon. I joke that if she was one my receivers, shed get every pass I threw, so I think Julian [Edelman] and Gronk [Rob Gronkowski] might get a little bit jealous.
