DENVER -- Jorge De La Rosa tossed six scoreless innings, Todd Helton doubled and scored a run, and the Colorado Rockies held on beat the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Wednesday night. Michael Cuddyer reached three times and Rex Brothers picked up his sixth save in seven chances with a scoreless ninth. Miami entered the series having not scored in 37 innings, but it is the Rockies who have struggled for runs in the first three games. They managed one Monday, two against Jose Fernandez on Tuesday and two more against Jacob Turner on Wednesday. De La Rosa (10-5) made sure the two runs would stand up with another strong performance, and the bend-not-break bullpen helped Colorado snap a two-game skid. De La Rosa pitched out of trouble when Miami had runners on first and third in the first and second innings. After Turner singled in the second, De La Rosa set down 13 of his last 15, yielding only two-out singles to Adeiny Hechavarria in the fifth and Placido Polanco in the sixth. He allowed six hits and struck out four to reach double-digit victories for the first time since winning 16 games for the Rockies in 2009. Turner (3-3) was a hard-luck loser for the second straight outing. He allowed two runs and six hits, struck out four and walked two in six innings. It was the third straight start he allowed just two runs. Colorado went ahead in the second. Helton reached on a two-out double down the left-field line and scored on Nolan Arenados single to left to make it 1-0. DJ LeMahieu gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to centre to score Yorvit Torrealba. The Marlins wasted a chance when they loaded the bases with no outs against reliever Edgmer Escalona in the seventh. Escalona struck out Hechavarria looking for the first out, then Josh Outman came on and fanned rookie Christian Yelich for the second out. Wilton Lopez relieved Outman and induced Giancarlo Stanton into an inning-ending groundout to third. Miami broke through in the eighth when Polanco scored on Donovan Solanos third single of the night. The Marlins threatened for more, but Matt Belisle struck out pinch-hitter Justin Ruggiano with runners on first and second to end the inning. NOTES: Heltons double was the 579th of his career and moved him past Wade Boggs on the career list. ... Stanton is hitting .314 with seven home runs in 10 career games at Coors Field. ... LeMahieu has hit safely in all five games he has played since the All-Star break. ... Colorados Juan Nicasio (6-4) will face Nathan Eovaldi (2-1) in the final of the four-game series Thursday afternoon. Captain Alex Brosque has credited Sydney FCs stellar recruitment drive for the clubs eye-catching form to start the A-League season. The Sky Blues and Melbourne City have emerged as early frontrunners for this seasons title after impressing with back-to-back victories over the opening fortnight. And Brosque, who has scored goals coming off the bench in both games, said it was the clubs strong off-season that had propelled the team to its best ever start to a campaign. Most teams are struggling early because of the new faces they have, he said.(But) weve got Josh Brillante, Michael Zullo, Alex Wilkinson, Danny Vukovic, Bobo - half our team thats been starting these first few games, are new players. The quality in the players weve brought in have been a huge difference. The competition for places, the depth that we have at the moment, and just the good run that we had in pre-season... everyone made sure that when round one came, we were ready to go. Thats the reason why weve started so well. While Sydney FC have rocketed to the top of the ladder with twin thrashings of Western Sydney and Central Coast, Melbourne City also announced themselves as championship contenders with an emphatic derby win over Melbourne Victory.Brosquee said the Tim Cahill-led City were always going to be a heavyweight.ddddddddddddWe knew Melbourne City were going to have the firepower. Theyve started in that fashion. They look good, theyre definitely going to be up there at the end of the season, he said.Theyll be a team thats going to be hard to beat. The 33-year-old also said coach Graham Arnold moved quickly to give his team a reality check on Monday, pointing out how his team lost their way after an unbeaten opening five weeks last season. But he still urged his teammates to embrace the tag of title favourites early in the campaign. We just had a meeting and Arnies brought all our heads in very quickly. He doesnt want us getting carried away with it and rightly so, Brosque said. Its a good start but if we look at last season as well, we started the first four, five games undefeated and it didnt end too well. This season we did make a bit of noise, saying we wanted to win all trophies. It should be that way. Sydney FC has to be a club that goes into every competition wanting to win it and I think the players really embrace that this year. ' ' '
